Early day motion tabled by primary sponsor Stephen Byers (Labour), on Tuesday, 14 December 1993, in the House of Commons. It is signed by 56 members in total.
SWAN HUNTER AND INTERVENTION FUNDING
That this House notes that an application to allow Swan Hunter Shipyard on Tyneside access to the shipbuilding intervention fund has been made by the Government; recognises that access to intervention funding will be an important factor in attracting prospective purchasers of the yard; and urges the Government to take all possible steps to ensure that an early decision is taken by the European Commission to agree to intervention funding and thereby assist the efforts of the work-force and receivers in finding a purchaser in the near future who will take Swan Hunter out of receivership and thereby save shipbuilding on Tyneside.
