Early day motion tabled by primary sponsor Alan Simpson (Labour), on Wednesday, 5 July 1995, in the House of Commons. It is signed by 32 members in total.

LABOUR LANDSLIDES AND SOCIALIST VALUES

That this House, with respect and gratitude, celebrates the 5th of July 1995 as the 50th anniversary of the landslide victory of the post-war Labour Government; remembers that Labour secured its parliamentary majority of 146 on the basis of a programme to deliver full employment, universal entitlements to health, pensions and education, the nationalisation of public utilities and a massive programme of public sector house building; and affirms its belief that such socialist policies are as relevant to the ending of today's war against the poor as they were to the war against fascism in 1945.

Amendments

The Early day motion has received 2 amendments.

1358A1
leave out from `House' to end and add `notes that there have been five Labour governments, that unemployment increased during each one, that Labour promises made on health have rarely been kept, that Labour pension commitments were made without regard to the nation's ability to pay, that education standards stayed low under Labour, that public utilities were inefficient lossmakers under Labour and that Labour governments consistently ignored the wishes of people to own their own houses.'.
1358A2
leave out from `to' to end and add `demobilise as soon as possible, whereas the incoming Labour Government introduced 18 months conscription and did not demobilise until 1946.'.
