PROBITY IN LOCAL GOVERNMENT AND THE CONGLETON BOROUGH COUNCIL

That this House, anxious to maintain the highest standards of probity in local government, notes with deep concern the matters rightly drawn to the attention of the honourable Member for Congleton by the former Chief Executive of Congleton Borough Council relating to reports which have been received of financial irregularity and procedural malpractice on the part of currently serving members and officers of the Council; and urges the District Auditor thoroughly to investigate these matters and to ensure that charges are brought against individuals who are shown to have a case to answer.
