ONE WORLD WEEK 1995

That this House welcomes One World Week 1995 and the important messages about 'One World' which the programme is conveying through events in over 500 towns in all parts of the country; supports this year's theme of Growing Hope which celebrates the diversity of the foods we eat and the inspiration offered by the efforts of peoples in the United Kingdom and all over the world to preserve their own indigenous genetic varieties of food crops; believes that conserving and enhancing variety in food crops should be an important part of any biodiversity strategy; recognises that more than 75 per cent. of the varieties on which humanity depends for survival have been lost in the last 100 years and that more continue to be lost; and urges all relevant agencies and government departments to increase support for greater diversity of crop varieties and more diverse farming systems uses in agriculture both at home and abroad in order to ensure security of food supplies for future generations.
