Early day motion tabled by primary sponsor Joan Ruddock (Labour), on Friday, 9 June 1995, in the House of Commons. It is signed by 139 members in total.
DISPOSAL OF BRENT SPAR OIL PLATFORM
That this House notes that the report prepared by Smit Engineering for Shell on the feasibility of scrapping the Brent Spar Oil Platform concluded that it would be feasible to transfer the platform to land for onshore disposals, that the cost of such removal would be less than ??10 million and that repairs could be done to ensure the Spar does not break up during removal; further notes that the European Environment Commissioner has reiterated her condemnation of the British Government's decision to allow Shell UK to dump the platform; and calls on the Government to urgently review its decision.
