Early day motion tabled by primary sponsor Lord Lansley (Conservative), on Tuesday, 23 November 2004, in the House of Commons. It is signed by 87 members in total.
ENDOMETRIOSIS
That this House recognises that endometriosis is a gynaecological condition which can cause infertility, extreme and constant pain and depression; further recognises that endometriosis is a relatively unknown condition despite the fact that up to two million women in the UK are sufferers; congratulates the work of the All Party Group on endometriosis in helping to highlight the condition; further recognises that the cause of endometriosis is, as yet, unknown; notes that there is no cure for the condition; further notes, with concern, that the Government has presided over a decrease in funding for research into endometriosis, from ??1.8 million per year in 1998-99 to ??1.2 million in 2001-02; and calls on the Government to do more to help those who suffer from the condition.

- Line 7, leave out from 'notes' to end and insert 'that Government funding for medical research, including Endometriosis is distributed through the Medical Research Council (MRC), an independent body; therefore concludes that the difference in grant allocations for research into endometriosis of ??1.8 million in 1998-99 compared to ??1.2 million in 2001-02 is a reflection of the grant applications received, rather than a deliberate decision to reduce funding; therefore encourages the scientific community to bring forward high quality research applications on endometriosis to the MRC; and calls on the Government to ensure that everything possible is done to raise awareness and to help those who suffer from the condition.'.
