Early day motion tabled by primary sponsor Dennis Canavan (Labour), on Monday, 1 May 1995, in the House of Commons. It is signed by 44 members in total.
CONDUCT OF THE HON MEMBER FOR CROYDON SOUTH REGARDING SCOTLAND
That this House deplores the fact that a member of the Tory Government, the honourable Member for Croydon South, referred publicly to Scotland as 'the most prosperous region of England'; considers that such ignorance of geography and economics is grossly insulting to the people of Scotland; and is therefore not surprised that the Tory Party suffered a complete wipe-out at last month's Scottish local elections and faces the prospect of yet another humiliation in this week's local elections in England and Wales.
