EUROPEAN UNION AND MOVEMENT OF PEOPLE

That this House urges understanding that politicians and officials in the European Union are determined to build a fortress Europe which keeps out as many non-EU nationals as possible and inside operates oppressive and restrictive controls including compulsory identity cards, routine passport checks, arbitrary and unjust deportation and asylum procedures and exceptional difficulty in acquiring national citizenship; condemns the creation of two classes of people within the EU - EU nationals with rights to free movement within the EU, and non-EU nationals (including those living in the United Kingdom) who are required to obtain a visa prior to visiting for up to three months any EU state; believes it would be wrong for the United Kingdom to remove frontier controls in exchange for restrictive internal controls which are racist and class-based; and further believes that it would be wholly unacceptable for the United Kingdom to maintain frontier controls and introduce internal controls, including compulsory or voluntary identity cards, and to agree to even more obstacles stopping non-EU national entering the EU.
