ANNIVERSARY OF GREEK BLOCKADE OF MACEDONIA

That this House reminds Her Majesty's Government that 16th February is the anniversary of the imposition by Greece of a blockade on the southern border of Macedonia, a blockade which is illegal and causing much suffering to the Macedonian people; and therefore calls upon Her Majesty's Government to bring the maximum pressure on the Greek Government to raise these blockades.

leave out from `a' to end and add `limited economic and trade embargo on the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia; observes that these retortion measures have been taken by Greece entirely within the framework of international legality and in accordance with Article 224 of the Treaty of Rome, and are a restrained political response to the unremitting irredentism of the government of the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia; and calls upon Her Majesty's Government to bring all pressure to bear on the government of the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia to relax their intransigence in their dispute with Greece over their constitution, name and national flag, thereby making it possible for Greece to pursue the policies of support and cooperation which it wishes to have towards the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, for the benefit of that country and for the sake of peace, security, stability and prosperity in the southern Balkan area.'.
