Early day motion tabled by primary sponsor Andrew Mackinlay (Labour), on Monday, 27 February 1995, in the House of Commons. It is signed by 19 members in total.
EUROPEAN PASSENGER SERVICES
That this House regrets that Mr Stephen Morpurgo has been unable to obtain a response from the Customer Relations Department of SNCF Grandes Lignes to whom he was referred by Mrs Eve Harris, of European Passenger Services Customer Relations, about his legitimate complaint about the apparent absence of security checks at the Paris departure of the Channel Tunnel train; considers that both from a security and customer relations point of view this is wholly unsatisfactory; and calls upon European Passenger Services, SNCF and the respective Minister of Transport to get a grip on customer relations and the apparent slack security regime that is a feature of the Channel Tunnel operations.

- at end add 'and regrets that honourable Members who profess to support rail travel and the additional employment in the industry resulting from the introduction of this superb and futuristic service, should seek to burden EPS with massive and unnecessary security costs which are not required of the competing cross-Channel ferry companies, despite the proven instability of roll-on-roll-off ferries.'.
