Early day motion tabled by primary sponsor Sam Galbraith (Labour), on Monday, 27 February 1995, in the House of Commons. It is signed by 26 members in total.
PROFESSIONAL BOXING
That this House, recognising that boxing of necessity causes chronic, cumulative primary brain damage with the additional risk of severe secondary brain damage due to intracranial haematoma resulting in death and, while recognising that good medical supervision and care can reduce the extent of the brain damage, accepts that as the purpose of boxing is to inflict brain damage it can only be prevented by stopping boxing; and therefore calls on the Government to introduce legislation to bring about the end of professional boxing.
