PRESS FREEDOM IN HONG KONG
That this House views with concern the continuing lack of progress being made by the Hong Kong government in the review of reforming of legislation relating to press freedom; notes the fact that only three laws, relating to broadcasting and telecommunications, have been amended and only two others, on public order and summary offences, have been gazetted; and therefore calls on Her Majesty's Government to take the urgent and necessary steps to amend existing legislation, particularly that regarding official secrets and emergency regulations, and thereby to firmly establish fundamental press freedom prior to 1997.
