Early day motion tabled by primary sponsor Lord Alton of Liverpool (Liberal Democrat), on Tuesday, 22 November 1994, in the House of Commons. It is signed by 3 members in total.
MERSEYSIDE POLICE BUDGET
That this House deplores the proposed reduction in the Merseyside Police budget following changes in Home Office funding criteria; applauds recent reductions in crime in the Merseyside area; notes the comments of the Chief Constable, Mr James Sharples, that 500 police officers may have to be cut from the force; believes this will dangerously weaken the ability of the Merseyside Police Force to combat crime; and believes the only beneficiaries will be the criminals, and Her Majesty's Treasury.
