25TH ANNIVERSARY OF WOMEN'S NATIONAL COMMISSION
That this House congratulates the Women's National Commission on its 25th anniversary this year; recognises the vital role played by the WNS over the past 25 years in seeking to ensure that women's voice is heard when decisions are made by government; values the range of women's interests represented by its member organisations, and the Commission's independence from Government; stresses the importance of this direct line of communication between women of the United Kingdom and the Government; pays special tribute to all the hard work undertaken by the women of the Commission, almost all of which had been carried out on a voluntary basis; notes that the WNC has been instrumental in drawing the attention of members of this House to the needs of such groups as older women, women returners to the workplace, and women prisoners through their in-depth reports; welcomes the key role played by the Commission in the preparations for the Fourth World Conference on Women in Beijing in 1995; acknowledges the valuable resource that the WNC represents to members of this House who wish to be aware of women's views; and wishes the WNC success over the next 25 years.
