That this House celebrates the election of Nancy Astor, the first woman Member of Parliament to take her seat in the House of Commons, on 1st December 1919; expresses its shame and disappointment that 21 general elections and 75 years later, only 166 women have ever been elected to the House of Commons, and that the ratio in this House is a mere 9.5 per cent.; affirms the principle that the legislature in a democracy should reflect the make up of the electorate; and expresses its hope that positive action is taken by all political parties in this House to further the representation of women, started so ably by the suffragettes.
