Early day motion tabled by primary sponsor Cynog Dafis (Plaid Cymru), on Wednesday, 17 July 1996, in the House of Commons. It is signed by 6 members in total.
BEEF PRODUCERS
That this House expresses its profound concern at the predicament of producers of under-30 months beef; notes the reduction in market prices of 17 per cent. as a result of the BSE scare and that the situation is likely to deteriorate further with a knock-on effect on producers of store cattle; recognises further that intervention is signally failing to stabilise the market and that unless there is effective action the effects on farm businesses, the farm structure and the rural economy could be dire; and calls upon the Government to introduce a deficiency payment system based on income loss utilizing the allowable mix of European and United Kingdom funding.
