IRAQI ASSETS

That this House notes with concern reports that the Bank of England and the Government allowed the release of frozen Iraqi assets in the United Kingdom to allow Iraqi pursuit in the British courts of a case against BSA Tools, arising out of the purchase by that company of Matrix Churchill; contrasts this with the view of the Minister of State at the Foreign Office regarding human shield victims that he 'found it unhelpful that the Gulf Support Group were encouraging British victims to write to their MP about Iraqi frozen assets'; and is astonished that Iraq appears to have been allowed to use British courts and frozen assets in this way whilst the 3,000 British claimants for compensation from Iraq are denied help by Government Ministers to gain access to these funds.
