Early day motion tabled by primary sponsor Maria Fyfe (Labour), on Monday, 4 December 1995, in the House of Commons. It is signed by 81 members in total.
SCHOOL MILK
That this House calls upon Her Majesty's Government to reverse its decision to stop taking up the EU subsidy for secondary school milk and milk for school meals; urges them to reject the false economy of saving a mere ??4 million in the United Kingdom contribution to the EU budget while creating long-term detriment to the health of those pupils affected, including risk of osteoporosis; further points out that this decision means a total of seven million school pupils when req uired to pay double the present cost for a carton of milk, are likely to do without; and asks whether anyone thinks that British taxpayers would have supported this tiny saving, with its attendant consequences, if the Chancellor of the Exchequer had been fit to include this item in his Budget speech.
