Early day motion tabled by primary sponsor Jack Thompson (Labour), on Tuesday, 13 March 1990, in the House of Commons. It is signed by 46 members in total.
Poll Tax and Youth Training
That this House is deeply concerned that YTS trainees, 17 years old and over, will receive a miserly ??35 from which those over 18 years will have to pay at least 20 per cent. of the poll tax; agrees with the Rathbone Society that many YTS trainees with special needs, some of whom have forfeited disability benefits to gain a place on YTS, will be affected most; notes that while a young person's 18th birthday should be a time of celebration, many will suffer a drop in personal living standards; and further calls upon the Government urgently to correct this unfair arrangement by increasing payment to over 18 YTS trainees to compensate for poll tax payments.
