STROKES

That this House notes that stroke is the country's third biggest killer, responsible for one in eight deaths, and the largest cause of severe disability with 350,000 affected at any one time; fully supports the work of the Stroke Association in supporting people who have had strokes, their families and carers; and urges the Government to take action to raise public awareness as to the risk factors for stroke, to address the wide variations in the standard of both acute and rehabilitation services for people who have had strokes and to develop organised stroke services which successfully integrates acute, rehabilitation and community care.
