Early day motion tabled by primary sponsor Lord Morris of Manchester (Labour), on Tuesday, 11 February 1997, in the House of Commons. It is signed by 44 members in total.
PAY LEVELS AT MANCHESTER EVENING NEWS
That this House views with concern the intention to cut pay levels at the Manchester Evening News; questions the need for this when the newspaper is recording healthy profits; deeply regrets the refusal of meaningful negotiations; finds this action by one of the country's leading and most respected regional newspapers out of keeping with the principles espoused by its sister newspaper, The Guardian; and calls for urgent negotiations with employees and their representatives, if necessary with the assistance of ACAS.
