Appointment of Chair of Leeds Eastern Health Authority

That this House condemns the appointment of Mrs Pam Smith, as Chair of Leeds Eastern Health Authority; and feels that wholehearted support for the National Health Service is a better recommendation for the job, than activism and office holding in the local Conservative party.

Appointment of Chair of Leeds Eastern Health Authority (722A1)
The Early day motion has received an amendment sponsored by Lord Shaw of Northstead (primary, Conservative) and tabled on Tuesday, 20 March 1990. It has been signed by 13 members in total.
Leave out from 'House' to end and add 'congratulates the Leeds Eastern Health Authority and the Yorkshire Regional Hospital Board on the appointment of Mrs Pamela Smith to the office of Chairman of Leeds Eastern Health Authority, since she is well qualified in public life and public service as a Justice of the Peace for the City of Leeds, as a member for some time of the Yorkshire Regional Health Board, as a former member of the previous Yorkshire Water Authority, and as a member of the North East Gas Consumers' Council, together with a number of other public and semi-public appointments; and regrets that Labour Members are so blinded by partisan party politics that they are unable to give due credit to devoted and sincere public service.'.
