Early day motion tabled by primary sponsor Ken Purchase (Labour), on Wednesday, 12 March 1997, in the House of Commons. It is signed by 41 members in total.
TRADE AND INDUSTRY COMMITTEE INQUIRY INTO ARMS SALES TO IRAN
That this House notes with alarm that documents showing that Astra/BMARC paid millions of pounds in secret commissions on sales to Iran and Iraq have been uncovered; notes these documents were in the possession of the DTI inspectors throughout the Trade and Industry Committee inquiry into arms sales to Iran but were not made available to the inquiry where they would have supported witnesses who claimed there was a large but secret order book at Astra/BMARC supplying arms to Iran which helped facilitate the arming of both parties to the Iran/Iraq conflict; and requires the Government to give a true account of what use its arms agents made of Astra/BMARC in the 1980s.
