PRIX GALIEN
That this House welcomes the recent award of the first International Prix Galien for medicine to Janssen-Cilag for its anti-psychotic drug risperidone (risperdal) as the most outstanding innovation in pharmaceutical research and development; notes that risperidone is used for the treatment of schizophrenia and other forms of severe mental illness and that it was chosen by an international jury of 12 independent medical experts; congratulates those scientists involved in the research and development and who were honoured for their innovative work; and welcomes the fact that the UK, renowned as a leading centre of medical and technical excellence in the pharmaceutical sector, was the first country to hold this prestigious event.
