MEDICINAL DRUGS IN WOMEN'S PRISONS

That this House is horrified at further evidence of the over-use of medicinal drugs in women's prisons revealed at the inquest of the late Josie O'Dwyer; notes that on the day of her death on 26th October at Bullwood Prison Ms O'Dwyer had taken Promazine 200mg, Dothiepin 150 mg nocte, Chloral Hydrate 3 gms nocte, Voltarol 50 mgs TDS, Diazepam 10 mgs TDS, Phenytoin 200 mgs BD, Clonazepam 2 mgs nocte, Tegretol Retard 400 mgs mane/800 mgs nocte and Co-Codamol TDS; further notes that the toxicologist also found a probably lethal dose of 80 mg/l of tricholeothanol in her blood; and calls for an inquiry into the misuse of drugs in women's prisons as sedatives and pacifiers.
