FUNDING FOR SCIENCE AND ENGINEERING RESEARCH

That this House welcomes the news that an extra ??1.1 billion will be granted over the next three years for science and engineering research achieved through partnership between the DTI and the Wellcome Trust; recognises the value of such a scheme which will witness an extra ??400 million for upgrading university laboratories; and with the support of major pharmaceutical companies such as SmithKline Beecham and Glaxo Wellcome encourages further partnerships in order to ensure that reserach in such areas is adequately funded.
