Early day motion tabled by primary sponsor Colin Pickthall (Labour), on Monday, 23 February 1998, in the House of Commons. It is signed by 152 members in total.
HARE COURSING AND THE WATERLOO CUP
That this House notes that the Waterloo Cup, the main event in the hare coursing calendar, will be taking place in Altcar, Lancashire from 24th February until 26th or 27th, depending on when the event runs out of hares to chase; notes that hare coursing is a cruel and barbaric activity which often leads to an agonising death for a hare that has been caught, and becomes a living rope in a tug of war between two greyhounds; notes that the brown hare is a native species in decline; and believes that there can be no justification for the continuation of this cruel sport.
