Early day motion tabled by primary sponsor Linda Perham (Labour), on Tuesday, 13 January 1998, in the House of Commons. It is signed by 112 members in total.
LICENSING OF MINICABS IN LONDON
That this House welcomes proposals to regulate London's minicab industry to create higher standards of safety and service for the general public; calls upon the Government to ensure the introduction of appropriate checks on a driver's criminal record, health, vehicle and topographical training; notes that outside London, nine of the 10 largest metropolitan areas already adhere to these standards; and believes that following the introduction of regulation, the maximum emphasis should be placed on enforcement to ensure that residents and visitors to London alike are given the highest standards of protection to match those already provided by London's licensed taxi industry.
