Early day motion tabled by primary sponsor Ann Clwyd (Labour), on Tuesday, 15 July 1997, in the House of Commons. It is signed by 30 members in total.
BREACHES OF SANCTIONS ON IRAQ
That this House is concerned by reports of sanctions-busting by Iraq in contravention of UN Resolutions; notes that the Kurdistan Democratic Party, led by Massoud Barzani, is believed to be making profits of at least US$1 million daily from illegal border trade in oil products and other illegal exports between Iraq and Turkey; believes that this trade militates against a peace accord between the two Kurdish parties; and deplores the fact that this illegal trade is being conducted in full view of United Nations monitors at the border crossing.
