Early day motion tabled by primary sponsor Hilton Dawson (Labour), on Wednesday, 17 March 1999, in the House of Commons. It is signed by 13 members in total.
RETAINED FIREFIGHTERS OF LANCASTER
That this House commends the retained firefighters at Lancaster (A11) fire station for their exemplary service responding to 200-300 callouts per year across the largest station area in Lancashire, and in 1998 alone being the first appliance to an incident on 29 occasions; believes it is a matter of serious public concern that Lancashire Combined Fire Authority has departed from its usual excellent standards and is proposing to disestablish the Lancashire retained pump in order to save ??39,000; and calls upon the Secretary of State for the Home Department to recognise the needs of the expanding population of Lancaster for a first-class fire service and to dismiss the fire authority's proposal and to ensure that Lancaster's retained firefighters are allowed to continue their first-class work.
