Early day motion tabled by primary sponsor Charles Kennedy (Liberal Democrat), on Monday, 18 January 1999, in the House of Commons. It is signed by 31 members in total.

INSTRUMENTAL TUITION

That this House welcomes the vote by the Highland Council's Education Committee in favour of reinstating free instrument tuition in its schools; notes that the income raised through fees rarely covers more than a small proportion of the actual cost of providing instrumental tuition yet acts to prevent many children from learning instruments; considers that instrumental tuition is a vital component of a well-rounded school curriculum; and calls upon the Government to do all that it can to ensure that instrumental tuition is available to all children, regardless of background.
