MURDER OF MR TARIQ JAVED AND THE SECURITY OF TAXI DRIVERS
That this House condemns the brutal murder of Mr Tariq Javed, a local taxi driver in Bury, who was killed on 9th November following the refusal by four passengers to pay their fare; notes the continuing vulnerability of all taxi drivers to aggressive and violent behaviour from passengers, frequently as a result of intoxication from drugs and alcohol; and calls on the Government urgently to discuss with local licensing authorities the scale and extent of this problem with a view to improving systems and procedures to enhance the safety and security of all taxi drivers in the United Kingdom.
