Early day motion tabled by primary sponsor Lord Foulkes of Cumnock (Labour), on Wednesday, 6 December 1989, in the House of Commons. It is signed by 146 members in total.
John McCarthy
That this House notes that Christmas 1989 is John McCarthy's fourth in captivity; believes there can be no cessation of the search for ways to end his continuing detention, and that of the other hostages, Brian Keenan, Terry Waite and Jack Mann; and urges the Government to continue to explore every avenue to secure their release, in co-operation with other governments and international organisations, particularly with those who have influence over the hostage takers; and declares that those who enjoy freedom must use it to enable others to regain theirs.
