Early day motion tabled by primary sponsor Brian Sedgemore (Labour), on Friday, 6 April 2001, in the House of Commons. It is signed by 3 members in total.
FAILINGS OF ITNET
That this House condemns ITnet for its incompetence, gross negligence and monumental lack of professionalism in dealing with housing benefit claims for a number of local authorities; is deeply concerned at the distress caused by ITnet to thousands of vulnerable and elderly citizens; observes that when things started to go wrong, instead of seeking to put them right, ITnet continued practices which bordered on the criminally negligent and amounted to a fraud on the public; believes that the managers and directors of ITnet are unfit to run a business; calls on the Department of Trade and Industry and the Stock Exchange to take such action as is needed to close down ITnet; and calls on the Government to give urgent help to enable those councils which have been damaged by ITnet to deal promptly and efficiently with housing benefit claims.
