Early day motion tabled by primary sponsor Tony Lloyd (Labour), on Wednesday, 25 April 2001, in the House of Commons. It is signed by 64 members in total.
BRITISH SIGN LANGUAGE
That this House notes that some 50,000 people rely on British Sign Language as their working language; recognises that deaf people still suffer a range of problems from social isolation to outright discrimination; applauds the many people, both deaf and hearing, from Greater Manchester and nationwide who are actively involved in the national campaign for recognition of British Sign Language; and calls on Her Majesty's Government to give a sympathetic response to this legitimate demand.
