Early day motion tabled by primary sponsor Peter L Pike (Labour), on Thursday, 2 December 1999, in the House of Commons. It is signed by 9 members in total.
NEW ZEALAND ELECTION (No. 2)
That this House congratulates Helen Clark on becoming Prime Minister of New Zealand, and wishes every success to her Labour-led Coalition Government; but regrets that in 1996 a change of electoral system there prevented the election of a Labour majority government; and emphasises that this House will never agree to a similar change of electoral system in this country, believing that the first past the post system gives parliamentary stability and clear election results.
