Early day motion tabled by primary sponsor Lord Cotter (Liberal Democrat), on Monday, 6 December 1999, in the House of Commons. It is signed by 75 members in total.

NATIONAL SCHOOL FRUIT SCHEME

That this House supports the call on Her Majesty's Government from health campaign groups for fruit taken from the EU apple mountain to be distributed free of charge to schools; notes that similar schemes are successfully employed in other EU countries; recognises that such a scheme would have benefits not only for the health of schoolchildren but also for teaching conditions as a healthier diet has been seen to contribute to improved behaviour in children; and acknowledges that transport and distribution costs must be subsidised by the Government.
