Household Refuse Disposal in South Wales

That this House requests the Secretary of State for Wales to resist any proposals by the Cardiff Bay Development Corporation to remove putrescent refuse tipped at Ferry Road, Cardiff over the past 20 years to any site or sites in Mid-Glamorgan, on the grounds of : (a) public safety from the disturbance of asbestos, (b) the environmental dangers of foul smells and vermin, and (c) the ecological hazard of methane leakage.

Amendments

The Early day motion has received 2 amendments.

291A1
Leave out from 'House' to 'proposals' and insert 'notes objections to'.
291A2
At end add 'and condemns out of hand the opportunistic and cynical attempt to sabotage the Cardiff Bay Barrage Scheme on the most spurious of grounds; and urges the Secretary of State for Wales to look urgently at the possibility of reclaiming this valuable site and recycling the infill in line with projects that have already been proposed to the Cardiff Bay Development Corporation; realises the substantial environmental benefit of removing this hazard and recognises that modern extraction techniques invalidate the fears of nuisance caused by the removal of 'putrescent refuse'; recognises the necessity of restoring the area and its environment to its original state for the enjoyment of the people of Wales; understands that attempts to stop the Cardiff Bay Barrage Scheme will halt the creation of 24,000 to 25,000 jobs over the next 15 years; and believes that any action that prevents this enhancement will betray the interests of the people of Wales.'.
