Early day motion tabled by primary sponsor Robert Marshall-Andrews (Labour), on Thursday, 14 December 2000, in the House of Commons. It is signed by 87 members in total.
FAMILY VISITOR APPEALS
That this House welcomes the restoration, under the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999, of the right of appeal against a refusal of a visa to visit family members in the United Kingdom; notes with concern the small number of such appeals lodged to date; believes that this reflects the fact that many unjustly refused family visit applicants are deterred from exercising their right to appeal by the charging of substantial fees to appellants; and urges the Government to dispense with such fee-charging in relation to these appeals.
