Early day motion tabled by primary sponsor Andrew Love (Labour and Co-operative Party), on Thursday, 21 December 2000, in the House of Commons. It is signed by 73 members in total.
SOCIALLY RESPONSIBLE INVESTMENT
That this House commends the approach taken by the Co-operative Insurance Society in applying the principles of socially responsible investment across its entire ??26 billion portfolio; recognises the success of taking socially responsible investments to the widest public audience by ensuring all the 365,000 ISAs the society has sold since their launch are invested in a socially responsible way but also all the other investments made on behalf of its 4.5 million customers; further notes the potential that this investment strategy has in promoting best practice in corporate governance and business practice both in the UK and worldwide; and calls upon the Government to repeat the principled stand it took on trust-based pensions by ensuring that people who take out stakeholder pensions are aware of the ethical stance taken by the funds they invest in.
