Early day motion tabled by primary sponsor Lawrence Cunliffe (Labour), on Wednesday, 24 July 1991, in the House of Commons. It is signed by 15 members in total.

THE GUARDIAN AND MANCHESTER EVENING NEWS AND PICCADILLY RADIO

That this House notes with concern that The Guardian and Manchester Evening News plc, which has a monopoly of newspapers in Greater Manchester, owning and operating more than 20 titles, including The Manchester Evening News, is now seeking to use its position as a restricted shareholder in Transworld Communications plc to control the management of that company, which operates Manchester's independent radio station, Piccadilly Radio, a direct competitor to The Manchester Evening News; and believes such action to be against the public interest.
