Early day motion tabled by primary sponsor David Stewart (Labour), on Thursday, 28 February 2002, in the House of Commons. It is signed by 34 members in total.

WORLD HERITAGE STATUS

That this House congratulates the United Nations on its organisation of the International Year of Mountains; believes that an appropriate way to celebrate the year would be to ensure that the Cairngorm mountains, as the largest continuous area of high ground above 1,000 metres in Britain, is designated a World Heritage Site; and calls on the Government and Unesco to do all in their power to give the ultimate international acclaim of World Heritage status to this beautiful and environmentally unique part of our heritage.
