BALFOUR BEATTY AND THE ILISU DAM

That this House welcomes the withdrawal of Balfour Beatty and Impregilo from the Ilisu Dam project in the Kurdish region of south east Turkey following a thorough and extensive evaluation of the commercial, environmental and social issues inherent in the project; notes that the four conditions imposed by the UK Government for export credit support have yet to be met; calls on the UK Government, following the Balfour Beatty decision, to withdraw its support for the project; and further calls on the Government to introduce mandatory human rights, environment and development standards for future UK export credits and investment guarantees.
