NATIONAL PRO BONO WEEK 9 13 JUNE 2003
That this House welcomes and supports the aims of National Pro Bono Week, from 9th to 13th June, which are to encourage lawyers not yet involved in pro bono work to experience what is happening, ask questions and then commit to action, to ensure those who need pro bono help know where to find it, and to give voluntary organisations an opportunity to voice their needs for assistance; notes that 26 events are planned throughout England and Wales that will include the launch of a new pro bono website, www.probononet.uk, which will co-ordinate the voluntary work already carried out by the profession, and link more individuals and voluntary organisations with lawyers offering free advice; and encourages all honourable members to support the website and local initiatives aimed at the promotion and provision of pro bono assistance by the legal profession.
