Early day motion tabled by primary sponsor Mike Weir (Scottish National Party), on Wednesday, 11 June 2003, in the House of Commons. It is signed by 41 members in total.
RECOGNITION OF BRITISH SIGN LANGUAGE
That this House welcomes the recent announcement from the Department of Work and Pensions that British Sign Language is a language in its own right; notes, however, that there is no Scottish representative on the advisory group to discuss how the ??1 million funding will be spent for the training of BSL/English interpreters and other BSL initiatives; and believes that all areas of the United Kingdom should benefit from this development and that organisations such as the Scottish Council on Deafness should be included in the consultation process.
