Early day motion tabled by primary sponsor Bob Russell (Liberal Democrat), on Tuesday, 11 March 2003, in the House of Commons. It is signed by 55 members in total.
TIREDNESS KILLS SIGNS
That this House notes with dismay that driver sleepiness accounts for as much as a fifth of crashes on motorways and monotonous roads, and around 10 per cent. of all crashes on the United Kingdom road network; welcomes as a positive measure as a means to reduce such crashes the erection of Tiredness Kills signs on approaches to service areas on motorways to remind drivers of the need for regular breaks; and calls on the Government to encourage the erection of Tiredness Kills signs at approaches to service areas on trunk roads as a further means to reduce the number of crashes, and consequent deaths and injuries, caused by driver fatigue.
