HUMANITARIAN SITUATION IN ERITREA

That this House notes the deteriorating humanitarian crisis in Eritrea, with 70 per cent. of its 3.9 million population at risk of food shortages; further notes that the United Nations appeal for $163 million for food, water and sanitation, launched in November 2002, has received a response of only 2 per cent.; pays tribute to those who have already donated food and other aid to Eritrea, but believes the international community must do more if a complete humanitarian catastrophe as warned by the UN Humanitarian Coordinator for Eritrea is to be avoided.
