Early day motion tabled by primary sponsor Simon Hughes (Liberal Democrat), on Friday, 1 December 1989, in the House of Commons. It is signed by 8 members in total.

Liberal Democrats on Sutton London Borough Council

That this House congratulates Sheila Siggins on successfully gaining a seat from the Owenite Social Democratic Party on Sutton London Borough Council thus confirming Liberal Democrat control of the Council which recently came top of the Evening Standard Green League; further notes that the Liberal Democrat majority on the Council has further increased following the decision of Councillor Terry Woods to join the Liberal Democrat group rather than continue as the last remaining Owenite Social Democratic Party member on the Council; and believes that the by-election result and subsequent events are a clear endorsement of Liberal Democrat policies which put people first.
