Early day motion tabled by primary sponsor Norman Lamb (Liberal Democrat), on Tuesday, 8 April 2003, in the House of Commons. It is signed by 52 members in total.

REGULATION OF THE TRAVEL INSURANCE INDUSTRY

That this House notes with concern that consumers who buy travel insurance from a travel agent or tour operator are not protected by statutory regulation; further notes that direct sellers of travel insurance currently subscribe to a voluntary code and will be subject to statutory regulation via the Financial Services Authority from January 2005; further notes that recent research by Which Magazine found that only one out of a sample of 28 travel agents sought to establish whether customers had any pre-existing medical conditions; and calls on the Chancellor of the Exchequer to adopt full FSA regulation of travel agents' sale of travel insurance.
