WORKERS INTERNATIONAL MEMORIAL DAY MONDAY 28TH APRIL 2003

That this House is proud to recognise International Workers Memorial Day on Monday 28th April; remembers the huge number of people killed in accidents at work and by occupational illnesses like cancer, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and asbestos-related diseases each year; and commits itself to work for better health and safety at work to prevent death and injury and disease through a partnership approach and the implementation of workplace safety strategies, the recognition of corporate killing, serious fines and imprisonment for breach of health and safety law, and increased rights for trade union safety representatives.
